Projects
We have undertaken many projects in this sector for a series of prestigious clients and we think the following are most representative of the work we do.

SSL's work with the Royal Academy resulted in a fully integrated website pulling in information from many sources within the institution: the collection management system; the library system; the book system; the archive database and also records carrying information about individual Royal Academicians.
culture24home2011.jpg
Culture24's website (formerly the 24 Hour Museum) is an award-winning cultural guide promoting museums, galleries, libraries and archives across the UK. Every month, at least a million visitors enjoy content on Culture24 and Show Me, along with a host of micro sites powered by the Culture24 database.
merlinrecord(2).jpg
In 2002 the British Museum went live with Merlin, the biggest collections management system in the world to date. Based on MuseumIndex+ we implemented and configured Merlin to the museum's specification, including a Unicode facility to catalogue and search using historical and non-European scripts. Merlin will support the museum's requirements well into the future. Merlin enables the museum to make its collections accessible for secure scholarly and public access.
tank.jpg
We configured TRACER, the Tank Museum's catalogue system, to enable the museum to catalogue its entire collection to international standards. ContentIndex+ draws data from TRACER and with a narrative facility enables the museum to create any number of themed interactive presentations from their collections.

We developed the fully integrated software infrastructure and delivery platform for the Courtauld Institute's Art and Architecture website. The website is both an entertaining and comprehensive resource including more than 40,000 images, themes and stories aimed at a wide audience with additional sophisticated facilities for researchers and teaching.
devon(2).jpg
We have developed a customised website management system for the Local Studies Service of Devon Library. The system enables effective management of both the Local Studies holdings and the content of the 'Etched on Devon's Memory' website. System Simulation worked closely with the library staff to build the software infrastructure for this website and collections database.
iamm.jpg
We have configured and installed our collections management system for the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia. The system was specifically built on existing practices and procedures, while allowing the museum to catalogue its collections to international standards.
LTMJapanpostersearch.tiff
We have implemented and integrated the Collections Management System and Image Library System for the London Transport Museum as part of their Total Access Project. Public access web browsers driven by these systems and designed and developed by us, are accessible in the Learning Centre at the museum.
MoDAentrypage.tiff
The museum houses one of the world's most comprehensive collections of nineteenth and twentieth century decorative arts for the home. We supplied our collections management system to enable MoDA to build a digital catalogue of its entire collections and make them accessible to researchers and the public in the Study Room and online.
MAhome.tiff
We supplied ContentIndex+, our powerful content management system, to the Museums Association (MA) and developed the MA website which provides both current online news and a major resourcebase for its members. ContentIndex+ enables MA staff to create, edit, link and manage all content and update the website weekly.
newport_splash.jpg
We have delivered our collections management system configured with relevant terminology controls for the diverse collections of Newport Museums. These include the Newport Museum, the Art Gallery, Tredegar House, the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre, the Transporter Bridge and the Newport Medieval Ship.
sopsehomej.jpg
This portal offers a number of web microsites covering collections and locations in the South East region, including 'Greenham - a common inheritance', 'Hantsphere', 'Slough History online', 'The Huntley and Palmers Collection' and 'ThamesPilot'. We supplied a Content Management System to drive the microsites and enable consortium members to create and manage their own content.
V&Acollectionspage.tiff
We have supplied software to the V&A over a number of years including its core collections management system and integrated image library allowing web access to its collections. Recently, we supplied our AssetIndex+ to achieve much greater integration and allow the V&A to feed its assets into a range of more specialised applications.
showmenewspg.tiff
ShowMe is a safe, non-commercial site for kids produced by the 24 Hour Museum offering a collection of online games and interactive content from the UK's museums and galleries. We provide and maintain the infrastructure which consists of a content management system that powers the dynamic website.
11coriniumphotographyfrontcopy(2).jpg
The Corinium Museum reopened in 2005 after a stunning makeover. We provided our easy to use ContentIndex+ with an Image Library Module to enable the museum to create the content for interactive kiosks. Visitors can explore 3,000 archaeological records and objects, or get to know old Cirencester through hundreds of photographs of the town.
geffrye.jpg
The Geffrye Museum is one of London's best-loved museums. It shows the changing style of the English domestic interior in a series of period rooms from 1600 to the present day. They have made use of MuseumIndex+ for managing their collections and ImageIndex+ for managing their images. We have also supplied them with SOAPIX to enable the company who run their website to get access to MuseumIndex+ data via SOAP.
croydon(2).jpg
Through collaboration with the staff at the museum, we delivered creative design and robust implementation for the new interpretation kiosks and the new website. Each of the 30 kiosks spread throughout the gallery tells the unique story of around 10 objects in the immediate vicinity, using pictures, oral histories and video.
We have a strong R&D orientation and have collaborated on a wide range of IST projects under Framework programmes 4, 5 and 6. These enable us to keep our software at the leading edge and to provide consultancy services to clients on future opportunities and knowledge management strategies.
